The quality of the pastels are excellent. Only a few frustration points that I tend to have with most basic starter sets. Plus a few with this set specifically. First I don’t understand how a basic starter set will omit violet/purple. Generally starter sets will have all primary colors but only orange and green secondary colors. This starter set is heavy on the warmer yellow and orange side. It doesn’t have what I consider a primary red. Mixing this red (similar to cadmium red deep) with the blue gives a muted violet. 5 of the 10 pastels are yellows and oranges. Red-orange, orange, yellow-orange, yellow, yellow ochre. 6 if you add the warmer brown pastel. The other colors are white, black (not as rich a dark as I’d want for starter set), light green (towards yellow and a bit “pastel” white added), white and a good rich primary blue. Two colors would make this set much better as a starter. First is violet. How can a basic set not included all primary and secondary colors? Along the same lines, I wish the set had a true primary red rather than a red-orange. A richer solid secondary green would improve color choices as well. Would be easy to substitute yellow-orange and red-orange to add the violet and true primary red.Giving this 5 stars because the quality of the pastels. In addition to the fact that the colors where as described, though I disagree with their decision of color choices for a starter set. Based on the quality of the pastels I will probably get one of the larger sets they have available.
